About the Authors
Caitlin Ohama-Darcus practises civil, commercial, and appellate litigation with Lawson Lundell LLP in Vancouver. Ms. Ohama-Darcus graduated with a JD from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. Following graduation, she served as a judicial law clerk for two justices of the Court of Appeal for British Columbia: Mr. Justice Goepel and Madam Justice Kirkpatrick. As counsel, Ms. Ohama-Darcus has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Ms. Ohama-Darcus is also a regular contributor to Access Pro Bono through the appeal roster program and was recognized in 2024 with an Outstanding Young Alum Award from the Peter A. Allard School of Law Alumni Association.
Tom Posyniak has a litigation practice at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Vancouver, British Columbia. His practice focuses on appeals, and written advocacy more generally. Mr. Posyniak has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, including often before the Court of Appeal, and has prepared submissions for the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. Prior to joining Fasken, he clerked for Justice Chiasson and Justice Bennett of the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He has also been a member of the executive of the Appellate Advocacy section of the Canadian Bar Association–BC Branch since 2015. More recently, Mr. Posyniak has served as a referral counsel for Access Pro Bono's Court of Appeal Program.
Kayla Strong is a partner at Nathanson, Schachter & Thompson LLP in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, including trial, appellate and arbitration matters. Ms. Strong has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, and in an intervention before the Supreme Court of Canada. Prior to private practice, Ms. Strong clerked with Chief Justice Robert J. Bauman of the British Columbia Court of Appeal. She graduated from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia as the gold medallist. Ms. Strong is a regular contributor to CLE BC publications and is currently teaching Ethics and Professionalism at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. She previously served as a referral counsel for Access Pro Bono's Court of Appeal Program.
